Interests: Whitewater kayaking, Live theatre (especially David Williamson plays),whitewater kayaking, reading business and personal development books, hanging out with my family and did I mention whitewater kayaking.
Favourite food: Chocolate paddle pops.
A funny guiding experience:
At Coolendel rapid on the lower Shoalhaven river. A group of school students are paddling down a grade 1 gravel race with a 30cm drop at the bottom. From here the water flows around to a pebbly beach where the students hop out. Quite often as a canoe goes off a small drop it becomes unstable and invariably capsizes. In this particular rapid it was quite safe for the students to capsize and then swim to shore.
I am sitting near the drop watching 2 students come down the rapid towards me when I catch out of the corner of my eye something moving accross the water towards the drop. A quick glance tells me it is a harmless carpet snake. I sat and watched to see who would reach the drop first.
Well they both reached it at the same time and you can guess what happened.
The boys came over the drop and capsized. There was a yell and two boys doing their Jesus impersonations running across the water away from the snake.
I don't know who got the biggest fright. The boys or the snake.
Needless to say both the boy and the snake were both alright, if not suffering from a minor degree of shock.
Why do I work in the industry: I love helping people experience an adventure that they may not have have had the skills to enjoy. Taking people down high grade rapids for the first time or watching someone take the challenge and overcome a fear of heights. That i enjoy the most.
